Where it began
In 1892, Ellen Cosgrave opened the first family victuallers at Eden Quay.
With 21 children and extraordinary determination, Ellen established a trade that would pass from one generation to the next. After her husband’s death, she opened another shop in Ranelagh around 1901. A third followed at South Richmond Street around 1930.
The Cosgrave sons and grandsons continued the family tradition, with animals bred at Barn Elms and butchering knowledge learned directly from the generation before them.

The Lady Meath
A devastating loss—and a family that rebuilt.
The Lady Meath sank after striking a mine while carrying 700 Cosgrave cattle. There were no human fatalities, but all livestock were lost. With no insurance or reimbursement, the flagship Ranelagh shop closed. The family started again.
